All four GU10 teams from Santa Monica participated in last weekend's 17th annual Locomotion tournament in Riverside with the All Star team taking top honors in their division.

They opened with wins against teams from Sherman Oaks and Corona on Saturday, with forwards Maisey McRae and Alison Brown, and mid-fielders Maya Cooper, Alexis Moran, Giulia Trevellin and Lucia Saignac-Perez combining for 8 goals, while the stellar defense, anchored by Scottie Meek in the goal and Jordan Jensen, Abbie Grossman, and McKenna Pringle on the back line, allowed just one.  Meek successfully defended a PK in the first quarter of the first game to set the tone.

Sunday proved to be a tougher day competition-wise, with a closely fought 2-1 victory over Central Torrance in the morning that ended on a winning PK by Maya Cooper in the closing seconds.  Having already clinched a first-place berth in the medal round the following day, Coaches Stephen Cooper and Adam Jensen mixed things up in the afternoon game with mixed results -- a 1-1 tie against one of the select teams from Pacific Palisades.

Monday brought a better result in an early morning game against yet another select team from the Palisades -- a 1-0 victory to send the team to the Championship game against bracket-rival Central Torrance.  Torrance, who advanced as the division wild card and then beat a team from Palos Verdes, was looking to vindicate their loss from the day before, but a goal by Santa Monica at the 12 second mark dashed early hopes, and a fired-up Santa Monica went on to win 4-1 for 1st place.

The team's self-appointed MVP of the tournament was keeper Scottie Meek who played with amazing consistency and conviction throughout.  Meek was twice awarded a Sportsmanship pin during the tournament, with Maisey McRae earning another.  Congratulations to all of the girls on their terrific play and their first tournament victory!
