Spring Select Program (including All-Stars)

Spring Select and All Star coaches will select the strongest players from the region who really want to play soccer and will make a commitment to the team for the duration of the spring season.  Spring Select and All Star teams will work together and play tournaments from January or February until May or June. Selected players from divisions U10 and above, who have met our attendance standards for the Fall Season and intend to continue with us for the following Fall, are eligible to participate.
(Upper Division Spring teams must wait until the end of the high school season to begin their spring tournaments).  We encourage as many teams as there are qualified coaches and committed players.

Spring Select & All-Star Team Selection:

In early December, after the Thanksgiving Tournaments, Spring Select and All Star teams will be announced. Coaches will select players who have completed the Turkey/Spring Interest Form below.  Consideration will be based in part on their participation in the Fall Select program, the Turkey Program and APO Program.  Note that U14 divisions may not have tryouts.  Participation in the Fall Select Program is not a free pass to a Turkey, All Star or Spring team. Likewise, players who have not participated in Fall Select or Turkey are still eligible for a Spring Select or All-Star team. Spring Select and All-Star coaches choose the strongest players from the region who really want to play soccer and will make a commitment to the team for the duration of the spring season. [Note re: Extra Teams - The Extra Program season ends with an Area 1P Playoff tournament in January. It is expected that most Extra teams will continue to play through the spring as Spring Select teams.] Selection criteria.
 Practices:
Practices begin in early January. There will usually be one practice on a weeknight and a scrimmage or practice on Saturday or Sunday (based on field space & coach availability).
Some All-Star teams may begin practices in mid-December and practice Tuesday & Thursday nights plus one weekend day (also based on field space & coach availability) as they prepare for the Area 1P Tournament.
Both Spring Select & All-Star teams may sometimes add a second weeknight practice in mid-March, when additional field space becomes available.

Tournaments:

All-Star teams typically play their first tournament for two weekends in mid-late January, representing our region in the Area 1P All-Star Tournament.  The All Star tournament is secondary play in accordance with the AYSO National Rules and Regulations.  Depending on the number of wild card slots for an individual division that year, more than 1 winner might then advance to the Sectional & State tournaments in March.  These are the only official All-Star tournaments.

All SM AYSO Spring Select & All-Star teams typically play in the Locomotion tournament in Riverside over President's Day Weekend.  For many of our Spring Select teams this is their kick-off tournament to the spring season.  Some teams also decide to play in a weekly Spring league.  It is highly recommended that teams discuss tournament & spring league options at their initial team meeting so families can plan accordingly.
