Upper Division Success

Pull date:
Wed, 12/21/2011

What a weekend for our Upper Division teams! The Boys U19 team won the Area Championship over Hollywood 1-0 in dramatic fashion where they broker a 0-0 tie on a corner kick in the 88th minute in a downpour. The drama continued in the Girls U16 Area Playoffs where Dickie Pye's team took the Championship from Culver City on penalty kicks on a rain (and player) soaked field. In the same playoffs, John Lamb's U16 team took home 4th place. The rain continued in Chino where Sean Alatorre's Girls U16 team represented SM in the Sectional Playoffs. After winning their pool on Saturday, they advanced to the Championship where they faced El Monte. Trailing 3-0, SM tied the game late to force overtime where they came up just a bit short and finished second in what the referee said was the best U16 matches he has ever seen. Well done! We are very proud of these accomplishments as well as our entire Upper Division players for continuing to represent SMAYSO. Read more »
