The Girls U12 Extra Team On a Roll

In January, the Girls U12 Extra Team won the Corona Pony Express tournament.   The girls sailed through pool play and met their Area rival, Culver City, in the final.  The team wanted to avenge an earlier loss to Culver City in League play (Santa Monica’s only loss).  Both teams knew they would likely face each other in the Area playoffs so the game would give one team a lift going into those playoffs.  Read more »

U10B All Stars - Sensational at Sectionals

Our intrepid All Stars played sensationally at Sectionals, nearly upsetting the Area Champions’ apple cart with an appearance in the medal round.  Instead, the boys took home 16 points, a Las Vegas Area 1S scalp, a scrappy tie against a tough Beach Cities champion team from Manhattan Beach, and one conceded goal against group winner Arcadia that made up the difference between advancing to the semifinals. Santa Monica BU10 All Stars Ride Team Effort to Sectionals

After attaining a #3 seeding in the group stage with a 3-1 record on a wet Jan-26-27 weekend, Santa Monica’s BU10 All Stars took 2nd place in the Area 1-P tournament the following weekend in Culver City, knocking off a feisty Los Feliz side 3-1 in the quarterfinals and a resilient West LA squad 3-2 in the semis before succumbing to deservedly top-seeded South LA in the finals.  Read more »

Boys U12 All Stars Win Top Gun

In what can only be described as a team effort, the boys U12 All-Stars won first place at the prestigious Top Gun Tournament in Mira Mesa over the Memorial Day weekend.  The team, comprised of Finley Ben-Dayan, Alonzo Campos, Luca Canny, Juan Castillo, Ethan Chasen, Lucas Donoso, Vaughn Gemeiner, Sammy Grossman, Finn Jantzen, Oscar Lopez, Will Wisen, and Ian Friedman (sidelined due to an earlier injury), and led by Coaches Rodrigo Donoso and Paul Canny, came together in their final tournament and displayed incredible soccer.  During the entire 3-day tournament, the boys cruised to 4 shut-out victories, allowed only 2 goals and were led in scoring by five different players. GU10 All Stars Top-Notch at Top Gun

The GU10 All-Star team soared to victory at the prestigious Top Gun tournament, held over Memorial Day weekend in Mira Mesa, CA.  Under the command of dedicated coaches Adam "Wolfman" Jensen and Stephen "Cougar" Cooper, the best of the best proved to be no match for the well-oiled Santa Monica squad who finished their season with a record of 35 wins, 6 losses, and 2 ties.  Over the course of the 3-day tournament, they earned 5 shutout victories, allowed just 4 goals, and saw goals scored by all 6 of the players in regular rotation at midfield and forward -- a true testament to the value of teamwork. Second is Sweet at the Strawberry Cup

After being bested at Moorpark's Apricot Jam tournament by Area 1P rivals Beverly Hills and Pacific Palisades (who placed second and third respectively), and being knocked out of medal contention in that tournament's gold flight, the GU10 All-Stars were eager to experience the sweet taste of victory again at Camarillo's Strawberry Cup.  Read more »

U10B-Flood Win 1st Place at Strawberry Cup

The Santa Monica AYSO U10 Boys 9 year old team took first place in its flight at the 2011 Strawberry Cup in Camarillo on May 22.  After 3 strong games in pool play - marked by goals from 9 different players - the Saints jumped to a 2-0 lead in the championship game before conceding two late goals to Carpinteria to go to overtime.  After a tough battle, the game came down to penalty kicks, which were won 3-2 after Carpinteria's last shot was deflected off the post by gutsy keeper and tournament MVP Diego Lopez.  From left:  Ernesto Gonzalez, Coach Randy Banchik, Ryan Banchik, Aidan Quinn, Milo Chemla, Konnor Paris, Mason Lee, Diego Lopez, Brett Edwards, Max Canny, Coach Michael Flood, Sean Guevara-Flood.
