After being bested at Moorpark's Apricot Jam tournament by Area 1P rivals Beverly Hills and Pacific Palisades (who placed second and third respectively), and being knocked out of medal contention in that tournament's gold flight, the GU10 All-Stars were eager to experience the sweet taste of victory again at Camarillo's Strawberry Cup.  more

The Santa Monica AYSO U10 Boys 9 year old team took first place in its flight at the 2011 Strawberry Cup in Camarillo on May 22.  After 3 strong games in pool play - marked by goals from 9 different players - the Saints jumped to a 2-0 lead in the championship game before conceding two late goals to Carpinteria to go to overtime.  After a tough battle, the game came down to penalty kicks, which were won 3-2 after Carpinteria's last shot was deflected off the post by gutsy keeper and tournament MVP Diego Lopez.  From left:  Ernesto Gonzalez, Coach Randy Banchik, Ryan Banchik, Aidan Quinn, Milo Chemla, Konnor Paris, Mason Lee, Diego Lopez, Brett Edwards, Max Canny, Coach Michael Flood, Sean Guevara-Flood. more

Girls Under-10 Team Forrest, the Santa Monica Saints Over-Here, swept the table May 1 at the Apricot Jam (Silver Division) to take home the winner's trophy. This is a team that came within a point of playing in the medal bracket at Locomotion earlier in the season, and which has earned a reputation of "bringing it" to tournament play. This includes the 10-game Palos Verdes league, where despite the challenge of playing first-pick teams in the Gold Division every week, they never quit on a game and thrived on adversity. more

The girls U10 All-Star team, coached by Adam Jensen and Stephen Cooper, entered the 2011 Founder's Cup Tournament on a roll. They placed first in their division at Riverside's Locomotion Tournament, first in their division at Thousand Oaks' Pot O' Gold Tournament, and are atop the standings in the Gold Division of Palos Verdes' Spring Select League as the only undefeated team. In Saturday's pool play, they found themselves pitted against some familiar teams from the PV Spring Select league -- the San Pedro Bees and the Palos Verdes Dynamite, as well as a new team from Balboa Park. more

Coach Sammy Romo's Spring Select team won gold in the Founders Cup Championship in the GU12 Division!

This weekend, the girls expertise at trapping balls, playing in space, maximizing passing lanes, and--most of all--playing fair but physical soccer ensured that they would not be denied the medal. In the championship final, the two teams combined for three yellow cards, a rarity in GU12 matches. Refusing to be intimidated by the physical nature of the match, the Saints prevailed 2-0. Overall, the team went 5-0 over the two day period outscoring their opponents 13-5. more

In a unanimous decision, the Executive Board voted this morning to remove Goalkeepers from all divisions in all games. Citing AYSO National research, Asst. Regional Commissioner Guido Davis Del Piccolo noted that "...kids are more likely to shoot often when there's no goalkeeper. With a goalkeeper there, they become apprehensive, looking for the perfect shot that they are unable to achieve with a goalkeeper in the way." more

We are pleased to once again offer a Spring Scrimmage program to all SM AYSO U8, U10, U12 & U14 players that are NOT on a Spring Select team. This year we have expanded the program to include all U8 players.  This is a program designed to give interested kids a chance to play more soccer and to grow their skills. The co-ed program will take place in a fun and pressure-free environment. Each 1 hour 45 minute session will consist of skills, training and playing scrimmage games.

Starting this Saturday (April 2), the program runs from 9am-10:45am every Saturday through Saturday, May 21, except April 16 due to SMMUSD Spring Break. The cost of the program is $40 and includes a free t-shirt.

To register your child, go to the Spring Scrimmage 2011 Player Registration page under the Registration tab above.

Thank you in advance for making this a fun program for the kids! We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
